Buying guides for CNC bridge saws
Guides for fabricators buying a CNC bridge saw: choosing a 5-axis machine, price, 4-axis vs 5-axis, new vs used and the 2027 EU Machinery Regulation.
How to choose a 5-axis CNC bridge saw
Start from the parts you cut and the slabs you buy, then check strokes, cutting depth, true 5-axis interpolation, handling, software, service and the installation and compliance documents. The checklist table at the end covers every point.
5-axis CNC bridge saw price
Public listings put new Chinese 5-axis bridge saws at roughly $10,000 to $80,000 and used European and US machines built since 2022 at about €65,000 to $125,000. Configuration, control platform and installation decide the real figure, so compare installed cost, not list price.
4-axis vs 5-axis CNC bridge saw
A 4-axis bridge saw sets the blade tilt and locks it; a 5-axis saw moves the tilt together with the other four axes. Shops cutting straight parts and 45° miters do well on 4 axes, while variable bevels, shaped cuts and 3D work need 5 interpolated axes.
CNC bridge saw vs saw-waterjet combination vs CNC router for countertop fabrication
A 5-axis CNC bridge saw is the fastest machine for straight and miter cuts and is usually a shop's first CNC. Waterjets add internal cuts and tight radii, and CNC work centers add sink cutouts, edge profiling and polishing; most shops add one of these as their second machine.
New vs used 5-axis bridge saw: total cost of ownership
A used Italian 5-axis bridge saw often lists for less than a new machine, but control age, spare parts, missing warranty and EU compliance on retrofits decide its real cost. Compare installed, supported cost over the years you plan to run the saw, not the asking price.
EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 for stone machinery: what buyers must check
From 20 January 2027, stone machinery placed on the EU market must meet Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 instead of Directive 2006/42/EC. Bridge saws for stone are not in the Annex I high-risk list on our reading, but new rules on safety software, cybersecurity, instructions and modifications apply to every machine.
