Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230

The Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC applies until 19 January 2027. From 20 January 2027 it is replaced by the Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, which applies directly in every member state with no transition period for machines placed on the market from that date.

TopicWhat the Regulation requires
Control system safetySafety functions and safety-related software must keep working as intended, including against faults and foreseeable misuse.
Protection against corruptionConnected machines must be protected so that a remote connection or malicious input cannot lead to a hazardous situation. Software and data critical to safety must be identified and protected, and interventions must be traceable.
InstructionsInstructions may be supplied in digital form; a paper copy must be provided free of charge on request.
Substantial modificationA modification that creates a new hazard can make the person carrying it out responsible as the manufacturer. Retrofits should be agreed with the manufacturer.

Machines we supply for placing on the EU market from 20 January 2027 are built and documented to the Regulation, including its requirements for safety-related control systems and protection against corruption.

Standards typically applied

StandardScope
EN ISO 12100Risk assessment and risk reduction
EN ISO 13849-1Safety-related parts of control systems
EN 60204-1Electrical equipment of machines
EN ISO 13857Safety distances
EN ISO 14120Guards

The standards listed in each machine's EU Declaration of Conformity are the binding reference.

Documentation supplied with each machine

  • EU Declaration of Conformity and CE marking (EU / EEA)
  • Operating and maintenance instructions
  • Electrical diagrams and spare parts list
  • Factory Acceptance Test report
  • Layout drawing and installation specification

Wet cutting and silica dust

Cutting granite, quartzite and engineered quartz releases respirable crystalline silica. Our bridge saws cut wet, with continuous water feed at the blade, which is the primary dust control for stationary saws. Water recycling and slurry handling are specified with the installation.

Markets outside the EU

  • United Kingdom: CE marking is recognised for machinery placed on the GB market.
  • North America: machines need electrical design to NFPA 79 and a listed control panel (UL 508A) or a field evaluation, and a 480 V / 60 Hz supply. Specify the destination at configuration stage.
  • Other markets: tell us the destination country. National certification (for example EAC or SASO) is confirmed during quotation.
